working with your higher self

When you start to work with the Higher Self it often is personified
in a form that appears as a woman or man. The gender does not
have to relate to the gender of the person contacting It.

The Higher Self can also take on the form of an angel, a mystical animal, a light or color, or even energy experienced in the body. The most common form is human, which is why these exercises mention seeing the Higher Self as a figure, but for you the figure may just be a shaft of bright light and that is perfectly fine. In doing the exercises, be aware that everyone is unique and experiences visualization differently. Some people can see the scenes in their mind’s eye, whereas others just feel or sense what’s happening.

Some people are auditory; they hear sounds and voices. Others experience a combination of sensory impressions. Therefore, when you communicate with the Higher Self, It may send you impressions that appear as thoughts in your mind or you may hear Its voice. It can also send body sensations that relay messages.

Sometimes personal desires can interfere with the message. Therefore, it is best to have the answer come by the use of signals. For instance, if you see the Higher Self, ask It to show you a visual signal for “yes,” “no,” and “maybe.” A “yes” or a “no” signal may simply be the shaking of Its head “yes” or “no.” If your experience with the Higher Self is more sensory, you may feel a twitch in your left leg for a “yes” answer and a “no” may be a twitch in your right leg. Then ask questions accordingly. At the end of the meditation you can ask the Higher Self to tell you more and receive a message either verbally or through impressions.

The Higher Self will always reach you in some manner. You may ask a question and not receive an answer at the time, but later when you are walking down the street, the answer may pop into your head, or you may have a dream in which you receive the answer.

Since the Higher Self is your Wise Self and is part of you, It knows everything about you and everything about your personal evolution. It therefore can help you in all of your life’s problems, from the most mundane to the most profound. Using It to help you makes It stronger, until you will begin to bring the Higher Self into your consciousness in your everyday life. Eventually, you will not even see a form but simply feel It in your heart as being one with you.

Remember, Its role is to not only help you with problems, but also to guide you spiritually so that eventually you become a Wise Being in all your thoughts and actions.
The more you use the Higher Self, the stronger is the pull of the shadow side of the personality. Consequently, the shadow side, which is also part of you and part of the unconscious, will begin to fight back in a negative manner. Be aware that you may suddenly have negative thoughts and feelings that you have never experienced before. Try to look at them in a detached, or disidentified, manner, and even see them as a black ball that you will give to your Higher Self to transmute.

Working with the Higher Self is a process. There will be times when you experience It fully in the meditation and at other times nothing happens. When first contacting the Higher Self It can be very evasive. It may appear and then quickly disappear. The more you persist in contacting It, the stronger It will become. If It should disappear when you are communicating with It, just link with your heart chakra (a center located in the middle of your chest), repeat
the end of the meditation, and literally demand that It return. In all Higher Self meditations, remember to shine light on the Higher Self when you first experience It. Sometimes desires coming from your personality will impersonate the Higher Self. Shining light on It is a way to verify It is indeed your Higher Self.

When the rays of light shine on the Higher Self, if It is truly the Higher Self, It will either stay the same or become brighter. If it is something else, it will disappear or turn dark. If this happens, and it happens to everyone at some time or other, simply tell it to leave and repeat the end of the exercise. If during the exercise you experience
blocks or fears, see these as a black ball that you give to your Higher Self, saying, “Please take these away from me temporarily, so that I can receive clear answers from You.” After doing this, again shine light down onto the Higher Self  to be certain It is still truly there. Do this at least once during the communication just in case some inner desire has replaced It.

If you only experience body impressions of the Higher Self, always keep connecting with the heart chakra. The Higher Self should convey a warm expansive feeling. Its energy is never cold, so if you are experiencing a sudden cold feeling in the chest, reconnect with the heart chakra and ask the Higher Self to come back.

Working with the Higher Self is always a wonderful experience. Its wisdom and humor make a magical combination. Sometimes It will take on other forms to indicate something you need to do. For example, It may appear as a frolicking child or an elf, indicating you need to have more fun or play with your inner child. It will even take on other nationalities and appear in different genders. If It suddenly changes from what you are used to seeing, ask It why It
has taken on this new form. It will sometimes appear as one of your past lives, usually a life that was deeply spiritual, like a monk or lama.

Sometimes the Higher Self will play games with you. For example, It may show you a symbol that you don’t understand. It’s important then, at a later time, to take the symbol and visualize it in your heart chakra and ask to see or receive more information about it.

Always the Higher Self works with your whole being. It will never reveal information to you that you are not ready to receive. It will never hurt you or scare you. It is gentle and loving at all times. It always knows what’s best for you, and It will never deceive you. If that ever happens, be aware that it’s coming from something other than your Higher Self.

These exercises will introduce you to your Higher Self. The more you work with the Higher Self, the easier it becomes to contact It. You may then eliminate most of the exercise and start with a point toward the end. With some people the Higher Self will appear just by linking with the heart chakra. Remember It always operates through the heart.
The more you use your heart chakra in your everyday life, using it in all your relationships and using it with yourself, the stronger  the Higher Self will become. You will find your heart opening and your feelings toward others becoming more compassionate. These are not sentimental feelings, but strong, simple feelings of genuine love.

Each of us is capable of opening our heart, and becoming one with our Higher Self, but it requires discipline and practice. It is an ongoing process that develops one’s spiritual nature. When blocks and fears arise, as they surely will, look at them as obstacles you need to work through. Break down the fears and see the root of them. Ask for a process from your Higher Self that will help you go through the blocks, starting with a first step. Work with that step and ask for another one. You may want to ask the Higher Self to show you a symbol that represents It. Take the symbol and draw it, keeping it in front of you during the day to remind you to link with the Higher Self.

Remember the Higher Self is your inner guide. It will lead you through the obstacles and help you awaken your spiritual and creative nature. Acknowledge the Higher Self when you do acts of love and kindness.

We criticize ourselves when we make mistakes, but how often do we acknowledge our good qualities?
Within the Higher Self sleeps the spirit of the individual. When you activate the Higher Self, you awaken the spirit. The more you use the Higher Self to guide you in all your decisions, the more you become one with higher forces and energies.

The Higher Self will help you see and transmute those characteristics that impede your spiritual growth. It takes you on the path to wholeness, It leads you into your true potential, and It helps you discover who you really are.

Meditation and yoga have been a subject matter which I have been practicing on a daily basis for several years now.

Anyone can learn to connect with their soul if they put some time into the practice. This is something you can do in your own meditations but just be aware that it gets easier with practice and you will get better at it with meditative practice, so don’t be discouraged if you are not successful in the beginning of doing this. I wasn’t very effective in the beginning either. You start by getting in a good quiet state of meditation where you feel internally connected with your inner being.

Once you understand that your life at this moment is part of a much larger continuum than the few decades you will inhabit this body, you open yourself to the high calling and noble journey of cooperatively joining with your soul in its evolution.
